Rake Lane
Rake Lane focuses on the renovation and extension of an existing 1930’s property with the needs of a growing family.
The client approached us with a clear brief; re-configure the kitchen into an improved family social space providing greater connection to the south facing rear garden. In addition, adding much needed additional space to the third bedroom.
The existing position of the stairs impacts the kitchen creating an awkward L-shaped layout. It’s dark, outdated and denied the occupants an appreciation of views to the rear garden. The small third bedroom provides space only for a single bed with limited storage.
The proposal adds a new side extension providing improved circulation with a specious entrance hall, downstairs WC and a home office. In addition to being an office, this space can be repurposed into a fourth bedroom in future if required. The stairs are relocated into this side extension which significantly increases the space and shape of the kitchen. The creation of a central island and French doors directly facing onto the rear garden, vastly improves connection and natural light.
On the first floor the third bedroom is extended in line with the existing kitchen to provide a master bedroom suite utilising the existing drainage positions.
Internally the aesthetic of the kitchen is contemporary. The use of handleless units and a concealed door providing access to the home office. Here we maintain the intended clean line approach to the row of units.
Externally the proposal is rejuvenated with a contemporary aesthetic to the front elevation. We proposed subtle use of timber cladding over the new entrance and existing bay window.
