Monknewtown
Monknewtown focuses on the major renovation of a run down bungalow. The client had a clear 3 point brief: 1) create an open plan layout of the main social spaces with a separate utility. 2) adapt the space to allow for the 3 bedrooms each with its own en-suite, and 3) create a home office to be included, if the existing space could accommodate it.
Our proposal completely reconfigures the existing space creating a contemporary open plan layout to suit the family’s lifestyle and needs.
Internally the aesthetic is contemporary; handleless kitchen units and a slot window for additional access to the views. A large picture window provides connection to and overlooks the entrance area.
The large full height fireplace creates a subtle focal point within the open plan space. Crittal style door and window either side of the fireplace allows for the separation of a snug area whilst maintaining a connection with the open plan social area.
A polished concrete floor throughout the ground floor and a vaulted timber ceiling within the open plan areas ties the overall design together.
Externally the proposal is rejuvenated with a contemporary aesthetic. Subtle use of staggered charred timber cladding over the entrance area and pre-rusted corten standing seam cladding over the tired looking dormers.
